After Ben had surprised me with painting the nursery I was so excited to get some ideas flowing. He knew I wanted yellows and grays and he picked out the perfect combo. I knew I wanted some black and turquoise accents I just didn't know how to do it. Well we have had this huge armoire in our garage that was given to us by Ben's old boss and it's just been sitting there. I got the guts to do it turquoise and make it a drastic piece in the room.
Here it is raw and shiny before we started sanding it. It has a shelf to go inside and 3 big drawers beneath.
Now it's all sanded and ready to go. I watched and took pictures as Ben and my mom painted away. I tried not to sniff too many fumes. Ben is worried our kid needs as much smarts as he can get.
Here is a corner of it as my mom and I were distressing it. This part was fun because we got to file off the corners and edges and rough up some random spots. Then with a sponge brush we applied the antiquing gloss onto the same spots we distressed. We got all the crevases and sanded spots and corners that would normally show age over the years. Also we applied it to the basic body of the armoire so it also showed aging. As we apply it we just used a damp cloth and a dry cloth to manipulate how dark or how light we wanted it.
Here it is in the truest form of the color and all ready for the last touches. The lighting was all from the window but the rest of the pictures are in the ceiling light so they look a little different. We love it!
We moved it where we wanted it to stay and added a hanging rod and the knobs. We just painted them black.
This little piece was given to us in Maryland from the Bennetts and was just sitting in the hallway with bills and papers all over it. I measured it and it worked perfectly for a changing table. I just roughed up the edges and decided to keep it black. We'll get some different baskets or buckets for that empty space.
Then these were made by Lori for my shower...which I still need to blog about. I thought they would be good as a cluster above the crib (which we still don't have and can't decide on). I have some frames and hooks for the walls which I think need to be black, yellow or white to pull in those colors. More to come.

Everything looks great. You guys are so talented. It is great that your mom is close to help you out. All we need now is little Wyatt. Hope you are feeling good and are excited about this new little guy in your lives. Can't wait to see you guys this weekend, maybe with a new baby?
Wow! Debbi is putting on the pressure...a new baby by the weekend? You haven't even put up a poll on this blog and let us all put in our predictions yet. We all know that he wont come until you do that.
I am loving his nursery. I can't wait to see the finished result. I LOVE the transformation of the armoire and the color that you chose. I want to see all of those teeny tiny clothes up close.
The nursery looks super cute! The armoire really looks good. Can't wait to see it and the baby when you bless little Wyatt or maybe in December. My predictions is that he will be 8 lbs 2 oz and 19 1/2 inches long.
Ok,since Deanne started with the predictions then I predict 8lbs.15oz. and 21 in. long. on Wed. Nov. 9th...but I would not be surprised if Wyatt gets here before Wed. Grandpa Miller says 8lbs. 4oz. and 21 &1/2 in. long.
now you just need a baby to complete it.
I LOVE the armoire!!! Great Job Caitlin!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your little man!!
okay, first of all, darling dresser. Second, all those comments ... exactly why I hate talking to people while I'm pregnant. Seriously, at least know it happens to all of us. And, third, you look gorgeous. I love your maternity pics. Excited to hear baby news! love, Amy
